SUBMISSIONS
The Table Review accepts submissions of fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and interview pitches during our two reading periods for our online-only publication. All submissions must be sent through our Submittable as a .doc or .docx file. We do not accept unsolicited submissions of art, book reviews, or criticism.
COVER LETTER & BIOGRAPHY A cover letter is required with all submissions. In your cover letter, you may list any major publications or awards, and note if your work has previously appeared in The Table Review. A third-person biography is optional but encouraged, and will appear alongside your published work if accepted.
ORIGINALITY & LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Submissions must be in English, must be the original work of the author, and must be previously unpublished. Translations are welcome, provided they are accompanied by a copy of the original text and written permission from the original author.
SIMULTANEOUS & MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS
We allow simultaneous submissions, but we ask that you notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. We do not accept multiple submissions within the same category, nor do we accept submissions in more than one category at the same time. Please submit no more than one submission per reading period, per category.
SUBMISSION LENGTH & CATEGORY GUIDELINES Fiction: Please submit one previously unpublished piece at a time. Submissions must not exceed 8,000 words. Nonfiction: Please submit one previously unpublished piece at a time. Submissions must not exceed 10,000 words. Poetry: You may submit up to four previously unpublished poems at a time as a single document. Interviews: We accept pitches for interviews with writers and poets driven by theme, obsession, process, or idea. Please submit a proposal of no more than 300 words outlining your subject, your angle, and two to three sample questions. Completed interviews should be between 2,500 and 4,000 words and must be conducted exclusively for The Table Review.
PAYMENT & USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
At this time, The Table Review does not offer payment for published work. Additionally, we do not consider manuscripts that have been generated in whole or in part using artificial intelligence. By submitting work to us, you represent and warrant that your submission is entirely your own original writing.
RESPONSE TIME & FOLLOWING UP
We are an all-volunteer staff and give every submission the time and care it deserves. We aim to respond to all submissions within four months. If you have not received a response within six months, you are welcome to follow up with us at contact@thetablereview.org. Please note that we are unable to provide individual feedback on submissions.
RIGHTS & REPUBLISHING
Upon acceptance, The Table Review acquires first publication rights. Authors retain full ownership of their work. We retain exclusive publication rights for 30 days after publication; after that period, you are free to publish the work elsewhere. We request that any reprints acknowledge original publication in The Table Review.
OUR COMMITMENT TO INCLUSION
We are committed to offering a platform for voices that are often marginalized or underrepresented. We enthusiastically welcome submissions from writers of color; writers who are working class or on low incomes; queer, transgender, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming writers; writers with disabilities; and any writer who feels that they or their story have been underrepresented in literature.
FOR RETURNING CONTRIBUTORS
If you have previously published work in The Table Review, we ask that you wait at least six months from the date of publication before submitting again.
